Our body is the house of our soul. When we dislike/hate our body, it makes our soul ache. Talking about body image issues is hard, even in the counselling room. It takes courage even to admit you have a body image problem. We offer body-postive therapy in the heart of Vancouver.
If you feel that you are concerned about your weight and health that constantly think you are not healthy enough, fit enough, or thin enough, you may experience the following symptoms: Increasingly fixated on what you eat, how clean your food is, how much you eat, how much exercise you do, etc.
Do you notice yourself counting calories? Reading ingredient tables all the time, being super concerned about the food you eat and get, spending a huge amount of time reading about food, constantly thinking about food, feeling bad after eating a certain food, cutting out certain food from your diet, etc. These are common symptoms of eating disorders or subclinical eating disorders.
Eating disorders or even subclinical disordered eating are incredibly detrimental to one’s well-being. Seeking help could set you free from these rigid and self-defeating patterns. My practice is informed by Health at Every Size (HAES) Approach, which helps my clients to work on their self-acceptance and self-esteem that is infringed by our “Diet Culture.”
I use a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive lens to gently guild you through complicated relationships between you and food & body. My goal is to help my client to reclaim their pleasures and be free from the food rules.
I will host a free workshop: Diet Culture and Eating Disorders at Richmond Public Library. If you are interested in this topic, please sign up and join us.
Date: Jan 11th 2024 Thursday 2:30-4:00 pm @ Brighouse-100-7700 Minoru Gate Richmond
